OUR FOUNDING

In 2012, Colin and Sara met whilst in the early stages of their recruitment careers, working for a small agency in Richmond. They started out in separate teams but quickly became best friends. Despite having no previous recruitment experience, Sara became the top biller in her first year, winning several new accounts on her own and carving out an excellent reputation in the market.

After three years at this business, Colin moved on to a top city agency, to develop his new business, billing, leadership and management skills. Even though Sara and Colin didn’t work together anymore, they always kept in touch and never forgot their vision of starting a recruitment business together; one which would serve candidates and clients differently to other companies, as well as creating an inspiring, and secure environment for employees. At times, the recruitment industry gets a bad name and Sara and Colin wanted to change people’s minds about what recruitment can actually be when done with class.

In 2016, their vision became a reality, with Sara and Colin reuniting to create Amberes – a business that would value relationships over revenue and that is about people rather than profit. In October of this year, Sara won Amberes their first RPO project with Autotask, a Pre-IPO Saas Business. The initial plan was to work ‘on site’ for a Pre-IPO SaaS business for six months to completely consolidate their Recruitment/Onboarding process, but Amberes achieved this in the first quarter.

Because Amberes was so successful, the initial six-month contract got extended for over two years. In that time, Amberes hit all their targets and placed 300+ execs into Autotask (which merged Datto, and subsequently went public on the NYSE). This saved Autotask both time and money (in the millions), while also eliminating the need to use multiple recruitment agencies.

In 2018, Amberes then opened their own office in Richmond, working with multiple partners instead of one sole RPO project. The rest is history, four office moves, several record-breaking years but most importantly, over 1000+ happy placements, across 50+ partnerships, spanning over 15 countries!

In 2024 and beyond, expect further growth, and Amberes going International with offices outside of the UK!
